Ballet West Guild’s Arts Legend Awards were established through a grass-roots level desire to recognize individuals from our local Ballet and greater Utah Arts community who have played a particularly active, lengthy, and dedicated role as an artist, producer, administrator, patron or advocate for the Arts.

An “audience and community award” of sorts, the Guild’s Arts Legend Awards provide an opportunity to articulate and express a deep appreciation from our membership to the selected recipient for their life’s work.

The Guild’s Arts Legend Awards are presented annually to 2-3 individuals, thoughtfully nominated and selected by Ballet West Guild’s Leadership Council.

Ava is the youngest member of Ballet West Guild an

Ava is the youngest member of Ballet West Guild and often attends our “Guild Members Only” In-Studio Rehearsals. Today, she brought along her brother August and her father, Thomas Bath.

We all were privileged to see a rehearsal of “Within the Golden Hour,” a one-act contemporary Ballet choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, with music composed by Ezio Bosso and featured music by Antonio Vivaldi. This work is part of the triple bill “Pictures at an Exhibition” which opens at Capitol Theatre on November 8th.

Ballet West’s 2024-25 Season will open with “Jekyll and Hyde” on October 25th.

Tonight, in our monthly BW Guild Meeting, we had a debrief of our 2024 Welcome Back Party for Dancers & Staff.

We always seem to remember back to that first year in 2017 when we held this event at the 5th Floor Lounge.

Who could forget that year when our always loyal member, Daniel Darger, brought the chickens.

That 2017 event night has become somewhat of an urban legend or shall we say, Guild Lore. There was Lucas Horns eating chicken all the way down the elevator. Julie Terry Shulimson serving chicken to folks passing on 2nd South.

Last Friday was our Third Annual BALLET in BLOOM!

This floral arrangement is inspired by JEKYLL & HYDE ~ an edgy, full-length thriller ballet choreographed by VAL CANIPAROLI.

Based on the novel by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, Caniparoli’s work includes music by 5 Polish composers Frederick Chopin, Krzysztof Penderecki, Wojciech Kilar, Henryk Wieniawski, and Henryk Gorecki, and premiered with the Finnish National Ballet in 2020.

Val Caniparoli has been associated with San Francisco Ballet for more than 50 years, where he first worked with Lew Christensen (brother of Willam Christensen) and later became Resident Choreographer. Val is a prolific dancer and choreographer with an extended list of works and recognitions throughout the world. And he is a true friend in Utah.

Ballet West’s 2024-25 Season will open with this production on Friday, October 25th and run through November 6, 2024.

Last Friday was our Third Annual BALLET in BLOOM!

Guild Members Karen Horne & Michael Rowley won this arrangement, quite fittingly!

The arrangement is inspired by PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION, a ballet choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky with music by composer Modest Mussorgsky, which New York City Ballet premiered in 2014.

Ballet West audiences are looking forward to experiencing this work as part of Ballet West’s triple bill program November 8-16, 2024.
