The third recipient of our 2023 Arts Legend Award

The third recipient of our 2023 Arts Legend Award is Bené Arnold, Former Ballet Mistress, Ballet West, and Distinguished Professor Emeritus, University of Utah, Department of Ballet.

Bené is famous for her round-off, back-hand-spring, jump-splits combination AND for ballet class de rigueur!

Bené Arnold is a tour de force in the world of ballet and has influenced generations of young dancers with supreme discipline and artistry.

To Bené, we send our endless love and ovation.

Last night, Julie & Aharon Shulimson were presente

Last night, Julie & Aharon Shulimson were presented with our Arts Legend Award! This husband and wife team are extremely devoted patrons of Ballet West and Guild members, having served in many various leadership roles over the years. Julie served as President of Ballet West Guild in the 1990s. Aharon began studying ballet and taking class in 2008 and takes two or three adult classes each week at Ballet West Academy.

Together, Julie & Aharon ran Sugar Plum Parties for about 25 years. In 2017, Ballet West recognized Julie & Aharon on Utah Philanthropy Day for their many years of extraordinary volunteerism.

They work full time in Aharon’s psychology private practice and have done extensive research on the brain wave activity of Ballet West dancers. Aharon presented their research "This is Your Brain on Ballet" at the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback Conference in 2017 and the work has been featured in several publications including pointemagazine.com and dancespirit.com.

Congratulations, Julie & Aharon! On top of all this, you always make us smile!

✨The stars were out last night at our annual Arts Legend Awards dinner! Receiving the award this year were Sharee Lane, former Ballet West Soloist, Director of Ballet West Conservatory, and Faculty Emeritus at the University of Utah Department of Dance, Julie & Aharon Shulimson, long time patrons of Ballet West and guild members, and Bené Arnold, former Ballet West Ballet Mistress, and Distinguished Professor Emeritus, University of Utah Department of Ballet.
