Last Friday was our Third Annual BALLET in BLOOM!

This floral arrangement is inspired by JEKYLL & HYDE ~ an edgy, full-length thriller ballet choreographed by VAL CANIPAROLI.

Based on the novel by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, Caniparoli’s work includes music by 5 Polish composers Frederick Chopin, Krzysztof Penderecki, Wojciech Kilar, Henryk Wieniawski, and Henryk Gorecki, and premiered with the Finnish National Ballet in 2020.

Val Caniparoli has been associated with San Francisco Ballet for more than 50 years, where he first worked with Lew Christensen (brother of Willam Christensen) and later became Resident Choreographer. Val is a prolific dancer and choreographer with an extended list of works and recognitions throughout the world. And he is a true friend in Utah.

Ballet West’s 2024-25 Season will open with this production on Friday, October 25th and run through November 6, 2024.

Guild Members Karen Horne & Michael Rowley won this arrangement, quite fittingly!

The arrangement is inspired by PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION, a ballet choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky with music by composer Modest Mussorgsky, which New York City Ballet premiered in 2014.

Ballet West audiences are looking forward to experiencing this work as part of Ballet West’s triple bill program November 8-16, 2024.

This floral arrangement is inspired by CINDERELLA, the classic fairytale choreographed by Sir Frederick Ashton, full of comedy and romance, with music by Sergei Prokofiev.

Ballet West is bringing this production to us February 7-15, 2025 with all new sets and costumes from London’s Royal Ballet!

This floral arrangement is inspired by WITHIN THE GOLDEN HOUR, a one-act ballet choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon with music by Ezio Bosso and featured pieces by Antonio Vivaldi. This shimmering work was commissioned by San Francisco Ballet as part of a New Works Festival and premiered at the War Memorial Opera House in 2008.

Ballet West audiences are excited to experience this work as part of Ballet West’s triple bill program November 8-16, 2024.

Last Friday was our Third Annual BALLET in BLOOM!

This floral arrangement is inspired by Nicolo Fonte’s recreation of THE RITE OF SPRING - a brilliant choreographer’s take on composer Igor Stravinsky’s epic “Le sacre du printemps,” which premiered in 1913 by Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes. With original choreography by Vaslav Nijinsky, the work was first received as sensation or scandal, but later with ovation.

For the 100th Anniversary of the original production, Artistic Director Adam Sklute, for Ballet West’s 2013-14 season, asked then-resident choreographer Nicolo Fonte to honor the classic piece of work in “new, interesting and novel ways.” Fonte’s work brings a Russian pagan ritual into relevance for the 21st Century.

Ballet West audiences are so excited to experience this work again as part of the all-Stravinsky, triple bill program April 4-12, 2025.

OF NOTE: Our BALLET in BLOOM event featured a signature cocktail “The Rose Blossom,” created by Guild Member Anne Neeley - so pretty and so so delicious. Needless to say, this special cocktail was met with sensation, scandal and ovation, all in the same evening - just like “Le sacre du printemps!”

Ballet West’s I CAN DO is an acronym for “Insp

Ballet West’s I CAN DO is an acronym for “Inspiring Children About Not Dropping Out.” It is an engaging dance education program for fifth-grade students that provides hands-on dance experiences and year-end performances. This year, the performances are being held on Tuesday & Wednesday at Highland High School. Come out and support this program that is so awesome for our youth community and has been under the direction of Peter Christie for a few decades! We’re so honored that Ballet West artist Loren Walton’s mother, Lesia Hunter, has become active with Ballet West Guild!

This past weekend, Lesia (far right) and Loren welcomed family members from Louisiana, Minnesota and Texas to experience the magic of Ballet West and see Loren perform important roles in our Spring triple bill program LOVE and WAR.

We loved meeting everyone and hope we can all get together again very soon!
